Highlights from the UC & Esri Keynote - Derek Law
KEYNOTE
Understanding Web GIS
One of the key ideas of the Esri Geospatial Cloud is the Web GIS pattern: that all members of an organization can easily access and use geographic information within a collaborative environment. Web GIS leverages existing GIS investments and makes them discoverable and more accessible. It provides a platform for integrating GIS with other business systems and promotes cross-organizational collaboration. Consequently, Web GIS extends the reach of GIS to everyone in an organization, enabling better decision-making.

Operations Dashboard transforms New Berlin Police roll call and procedures
The New Berlin Police Department has implemented the ArcGIS Enterprise Operations Dashboard with layers noting call summaries and police incidents/arrests. The dashboard map is used daily on large screen televisions at each shift roll call to indicate locations and information on crimes and offenders (including pictures of arrestees). In addition, access to Dashboard is on each squad computer available to officers in their vehicles and is used daily. Dashboard has increased efficiency in officers completing reports which has tremendously enhanced information sharing and ultimately, officer safety. Improved procedures for logging traffic enforcement and extra patrol activity daily on Dashboard has increased officer accountability. Dashboard has provided access to a database of commercial and residential cameras which officers use as a proactive resource to recover video of suspicious persons/vehicles. Recovered camera recordings have been used directly to quickly solve thefts and other criminal incidents. Tactical information for critical incident response plans including many floorplans and contact information for businesses, schools, and critical infrastructure have been incorporated into the Dashboard as well. Dashboard has significantly improved the ability of our officers to share information and gain instant access to resources to enhance safety and performance.

Developing ArcGIS relationships with Autodesk products for 3D design and BIM
A new collaboration between Autodesk and ESRI intends to put GIS and BIM at the center of design projects, driving smarter decisions, optimized designs, accelerated project approvals, reduced costs, smarter cities and resilient infrastructure. Building the bridge between GIS and BIM will change the way we plan, design and build our future.

In this session, we will demonstrate the organization, curation and use of GIS data utilizing the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS Online. This data can be imported into your Civil 3D design as true civil objects. Data from the completed project can be published back to ArcGIS Online to make your finished design information available to other projects or maps.

Session will benefit GIS specialists who work with design projects hoping to more seamlessly utilize and share mapping data as a design source.

BIM 3D at MMSD
In an effort to improve decision making, support efficient access to information and improve emergency response, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is developing a Building Information Modeling (BIM) for its Water Reclamation Facilities (WRF). Recently, MMSD implemented a pilot BIM for an Effluent Pump Station building. The pilot project work included development of a BIM Execution Plan, point cloud data acquisition and post-processing, creation of a 3D model of assets and equipment, system integration to related documents and databases, and development of an interactive 3D site viewer using ArcGIS Online Scene. MMSD will demonstrate the AGO 3D model viewer and discuss user feedback, ROI, and lessons learned.
