The examples discussed will highlight different community needs and illustrate how GIS was used to address those needs. The session will conclude with a discussion of different users and consumers of GIS, challenges of using GIS in institutions of higher education and in local communities, and demonstrate the importance of collaboration between institutions of higher education and local community partners for addressing local concerns.
